Growing Beyond Comfort
Insights from our 2023 Adventure
This past year was a whirlwind for Kaila and I to say the least. 2023 was filled with accomplishments and challenges, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. As we reflect back on our triumphs and struggles, we’re both humbled and grateful. The lessons we learned this year will undoubtedly guide us in 2024. We want to take a moment and thank you, our loyal readers, for sticking with us throughout the past several months. Your support truly means everything to us. As we get set to move on from 2023, we want to wish everyone a happy new year filled with love, health, and happiness. This week's newsletter will focus on a few of the lessons we learned from this past year.
Embrace growth and change. Life evolves, and so do you—it’s inevitable. You are not the same person as last year, let alone ten years ago. In fact, you should be concerned if you’re in the same position as last year. Grow. Change. It’s good for you. Don’t get left behind.
Your family doesn’t have to be blood. Blood only makes you related. YOU decide who your family is. What we learned living on this little island for the majority of the year is that complete strangers from all walks of life can become your family. We’re grateful for our island family and look forward to building on those relationships in 2024.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable. It’s natural for us as humans to seek comfort. It’s warm, and it feels familiar and safe. Regularly stepping outside of your comfort zone will lead to experiences you never thought possible. Trust us on this one. Your future 80-year-old self will thank you.
Take risks. When you take risks, you stand to gain regardless of the outcome. Taking risks is a reward in itself. It’ll open doors to remarkable new experiences and opportunities while simultaneously building character, creativity, and resilience along the way. Those who take risks are truly powerful people.
Don’t shy away from failure. Don’t shy away from making mistakes. Embrace it with open arms. Failure allows us to learn from our mistakes so we can make the necessary changes to improve and succeed in the future. Failure is necessary for growth.
Success in numbers is far more fulfilling than individual success. Build a team and win together. “We” is always greater than “me.”
All the best in 2024 and beyond.
